Animal ID: #475Betty (female)

Horse    Age: Adult

Health: Vaccinations Current, Heaves

Betty is a 13 year old Standardbred Chestnut mare. She came to us after receiving a call from a Fountain County resident on February 16, 2016 about her being left abandoned by her owner. The true story usually comes out after we start talking to people. Betty was bought from an Amish Auction in October 2015 after being rtired from being a buggy horse. The person who purchased Betty gave her to his daughter's boyfriend after repayment of the purchasing cost. Well the daughter & boyfriend split up, he moved out, and left Betty there with the family. The family had contacted him numerous times to come & pick her up & take her, he refused to ... (Read More)pick her up or return phone calls. They tried sending her back to the Amish & they refused her stating as far as they were concernedit was his horse. Betty has been diagnosed with Heaves when we got her & was started on Albuteral Sulfate for oral suspension at the dosage of 10cc twice daily. We are working on getting her on a management program to help her heaves. Heavs is a chronic, non-incectious airway condition for horses that is also called recurrent airway obstruction. This disease occurs in horses more than 6 years old & is the result of an alllergic reaction to inhaled particles. Betty looves attention from people, loads & unloads very well, stands great for a farrier to get her feet trimmed, & takes Albuteral smoothly. Betty doesnt get too excited with new things & situations. She is curious of new things. She adjusts to new herds well. Betty has had a couple set backs but has healed & still looking for a new home. Animal ID: 484DG (male)

Pit Bull    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Update 5/21/2016: I am still the same lover boy since the beginning when arriving at Hoosier Hooves & Hounds. The more and more time my rescue moms spend with me, i show them my true self. I am accepting treats out of Stacy's mouth, i I do not have to be lead in or out of my cage, i go willingly. I am finally roaming the play yard more and more with every day, going further and further out. DG is a sweet boy but so shy & scared on the outside.. We are not sure what has happened in the past. DG is 3 years old & male Pit Bull. He came to us from Save A Paw Safe Haven Rescue out of Kokomo, IN because they were closing down& shutting their ... (Read More)doors due to personal issues with owners. We were originally told he was a stray that took them hours to catch. Upon arriving at HHH DG did not want to come to the front of her cage or get out. He was very timid and shy, scared to pieces. He didn't want touched and although he would let me touch him an rub him, he shy'd his head away and would coward down. He had and injury to his left paw and ankle that seemed to be healing very well.We were told the injury was from a previous dog fight while at SAPSH. Him & another dog attacked each other through their cages. DG is still shy, but not as timid when we are around him. He was laying in the back of his cage all curled up and would rather just be left alone.. He wouldn't eat his food as long as we were around or watching, but you could bet the second it was lights out and we were gone, he was eating his food right away.. DG now eats his food with comfort at the front of his cage. I haven't been able to give him treats out of my hand yet, but he sure is coming around. He had no interest with my interaction in the beginning, but now is more forth coming and curious about whats going on and what I have for him. When he gets treats now he comes to the front of his cage and nudges the treat from our hand, once it hits the floor he will eat it. DG really is a good boy and I feel with continued tine of much support, love and appreciation he will come our of the shell he has put himself on. He is crate trained so we do believe that it will be easy for him to be house broke We have not had children or other dogs around him as we do not feel that he is ready to reach that point yet. He does however seem to not mind cats. DG has received a rabies vaccination, distemper, deworming, and flea/tick prevention. He still needs to be heartworm tested and be neutered, but we are waiting for this boy to come around some more before putting him through that. (Less)
